The challenge

Standing in front of the Trocadero and facing the Eiffel Tower, the Parc Des Champions was a grand, purpose-built venue erected for the Paris Olympics 2024. It was designed to be a magnificent stage for celebrating Olympic medal winners, allowing them to parade in front of crowds of up to 13,000 fans every day of the games.

As part of my work for Paris 2024, I was asked to conceive a Virtual Reality activation that would allow VIP hospitality guests to experience what it was like to be a medal-winning athlete parading at the park in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Overview

The Parc Des Champions Virtual Reality experience was designed in close collaboration with the organisers and was an accurate and highly detailed replication of the real-life event and environment. It offered a personalised, immersive, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step into the shoes of Olympic medal winners and experience the exhilaration of victory in an iconic setting. 

As guests donned their VR headsets and stepped onto the virtual stage, they were personally greeted, and their names were displayed on the jumbo screens. This personalised touch enhanced the feeling of being a part of the Olympic celebration, as they received the adulation of thousands of adoring fans waving their country's flag.

Highlights of the innovative, virtual host-led experience included a fly-past by the French Air Force's Patrouille Aerobatic, a chance to examine the beautifully crafted detail of an Olympic gold medal, interactions with fellow athletes, a parade among the fans, and a grand-finale fireworks-enhanced photo shoot at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

Deployment

Presented on bespoke plinths, the activation was deployed at all the official hospitality venues for Paris 2024, allowing thousands of visitors to experience the magic of the Parc Des Champions.
